The IGUMO Gallery opened the Object Abstraction exhibition by Vadim Gushchin, curator of the Faculty of Photography and renowned photo artist.
The author works in the genre of post-conceptual still life. Vadim Gushchin is one of the most influential Russian photographers working in this genre recognized by Russian and foreign critics and art historians.
The Object Abstraction exhibition presents colour compositions that may be classified as still life. They are composed of simple everyday objects, mostly books, united by the idea of the geometric character of the universe and everything that surrounds us today.
Although the objects in the photos are quite recognizable, their form and semantic purpose are secondary if compared to colour.
The author’s works continue the geometrical tradition of Russian and Soviet art of the 20th century through photography. The author asks about the extent of photography being abstract from the form of the object.
During the opening of the exhibition, the curator of the Faculty of Photography Vadim Gushchin told the guests about his works. He also highly assessed the IGUMO Gallery as a platform for the presentation of the artistic projects of teachers and students.
Marina Volynkina, Rector of the Institute for the Humanities and Information Technologies, also gave a speech at the event. She thanked the photographers and designers for filling the gallery space with their creative vision of reality.
The exhibition at the IGUMO Gallery will be open to the public on weekdays from 10:00 to 16:00 until September 17.
