The winter exam session has started in MKIK. Usually, this part of the student life is accompanied by stress and sleepless nights of preparation. However, exams also have a positive side: such control of education helps to enforce the knowledge of material of important disciplines.
The first-year students are most scared by the session. However, those who were diligent and productive during the term, have nothing to fear. It’s enough to read the notes and refresh the knowledge of the lectures.
The winter exam session takes place online for the first time. The order of the exam doesn’t differ from the traditional procedure. Everyone has the opportunity to choose a question paper, prepare to answer controlled by the examiner, and demonstrate their level of preparation during a dialogue with the lecturer.
On the first day of the session, we gathered feedback from the deans. They not only estimated the general level of knowledge of the students but also marked on what to focus while preparing.
Evgenia Suprutskaya, Dean of the Journalism and Publishing College of MKIK:
“The first exam of the year went great. We were very glad to see the students after the New Year’s holidays. The third-year students of the Journalism and Publishing College were greatly prepared for the Economics and Management exam. Of course, the students were a bit worried but we were trying very hard to create a welcoming environment in an online space. As a result, the students demonstrated a worthy level of knowledge.
Irrespective of the format of the exam, it’s important to show a confident mastery of the disciplines and understanding of the topics to examiners. The commission desires to hear not just a learned answer or a word-to-word definition. It’s more important to show the experts understanding of the subject and the skill to apply the knowledge in real life”.
Oksana Kurenya, Dean of the Linguistics College:
“Together with my colleagues, I administered the first Pedagogy exam this year from the Design College students. That was a very challenging and multi-faceted test. The board of examiners was chaired by Larisa Petukhova, representative of the professional community and deputy head teacher. The students demonstrated good preparation and interest in the subject. As I think, those are the two core components of passing the exam.
Lately not all the students take the exams seriously. It’s very important to repeat the material of the question papers beforehand and attend the consultation.
In senior courses, there are exams in professional disciplines where one needs to demonstrate the level of professional competence and willingness for practical training.
If we’re talking about general recommendation for the students, it’s important to answer fully, be confident, provide bright examples, and demonstrate interest in what you say”.
We advise you to listen to the Deans’ recommendations and show diligence in preparation for the online meeting with the lecturers. Don’t forget, that after a hard exam session you will definitely have time to rest during the holidays. We wish all MKIK studentsgood luck!
