TRAINING PROGRAMME

The training programmes of the Institute of Photography are designed in line with the trends of the design industry and employers' demands and are focused on instilling artistic taste and technical skills in students. The programme harmoniously combines theoretical and practical disciplines

‘MULTIMEDIA’

Students work with different forms of modern visual art, acquire practical skills in creating multimedia products. They learn directing, shooting reportage, commercial, fashion, and art videos, and editing. Students work with audio materials, create animated videos and website layouts, master the basics of drawing, composition, and colour science, and learn to work with fonts and use graphic editors.

PROFESSIONAL DISCIPLES: Foundations of Photo and Video Equipment, Multimedia Technologies in Photography, Video Shooting and Editing, Shooting a Commercial Video Project, Shooting a Short Feature Video, InDesign, Animation, Scripting and Directing in Video Shooting.

‘FASHION AND BEAUTY PHOTOGRAPHY’

Students learn skills in producing and conducting shoots for clothing designers, fashion brands, and beauty industry professionals. They learn to communicate with models and teams, develop shoot concepts, select references, create mood boards, and prepare briefs and technical tasks.

‘ART PHOTOGRAPHY’

Students learn to formulate artistic statements through photography, use expressive means of classical and digital photographic art, create creative concepts, collaborate with exhibition spaces, participate in festivals, contemporary art biennales, and auctions, and present projects. As a result of studying design disciplines, students produce an original photo book.

Students learn to work with lighting equipment, study techniques of commercial food photography, catalogue and marketplace product photography, jewelry photography, photography of art pieces. They master styling techniques for shoots and image processing in graphic editors, acquire skills required for successful entrepreneurial activities in the field of photography, and learn to promote their services in a professional environment.

Students learn to create artistic and commercial portraits in the studio and outdoors. They take business portrait shots, actor portfolios, produce family portraits, headshots, and love stories. Students conduct fashion, beauty, and stylized shoots and produce artistic and psychological portraits.

‘ARCHITECTURAL AND INTERIOR PHOTOGRAPHY’

Students master methods of working in architectural and interior photography for architectural magazines, real estate agencies and realtors, architectural and design firms, publishers, construction companies, museums, and corporations. They learn to shoot with special lenses and cameras to maintain correct perspective. Students acquire practical skills in working on architectural photo projects.

Understanding the trends in the development of photography, cinematography, and video art makes it possible for students to select references effectively and contributes to the development of aesthetic intelligence.

For many years, IGUMO has been expanding its partnership with representatives of the photography industry and art environment. Thanks to that, students have a unique opportunity to learn from the best professionals.

In the workshops, students shoot photo and video projects under the direct guidance of photographers, video makers, curators, and artists. To collaborate with successful people from the field as well as to learn their methods and approaches to photography or contemporary art is an almost exclusive opportunity our students have.

Thanks to the variety of workshops, students have an understanding of the diversity of industries in design, photography, and the art environment by the end of the year of training. That enables them to find themselves in the industry.

Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre

IGUMO is a partner of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre. Under the guidance of mentors, students take part in creating video, photo, and design content for the website of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre and its official pages in social networks. They prepare videos, make sketches, and interview viewers

Days of Contemporary Art (DOCA) International Festival

DOCA is an independent enlightenment project featuring an exhibition together with music and educational programmes. Students exhibit on the festival site on an equal footing with renowned art figures

BAUHAUS OPEN STUDIOS

Students explore international models of experiential aesthetic education in design, photography, and architecture

PHOTO DEPOT

Students create photo projects for real clients, exhibitions, and competitions, thus gaining practical experience and building their portfolios.

EXHIBITION ACTIVITIES

IGUMO students’ projects are exhibited at the Institute as well as at such venues as Winzavod, ZIL, Zverev Centre for Contemporary Art, Moscow Museum, Bauhaus, Czech Cultural Centre, and other major platforms

PORTFOLIO REVIEW

The project provides student photographers with a unique opportunity to demonstrate their work to independent experts and discuss it with them in person.

‘POINT’ AUCTION OF CONTEMPORARY ART

This annual event enables students to learn the principles of self-promotion and selling their original works, exhibit projects at the IGUMO Gallery, and receive their first royalties for their art
