Higher school is a symbiosis of science, academic knowledge and practical competence. This position remains valid for the Institute for the Humanities and IT for scientific research was, is and will be of great development priority for the IGUMO.

The fact that IGUMO holds conferences of its own status and its faculty takes part in international conferences makes it possible to underline the seriousness of the institute's scientific school.

It became a tradition for the world's scientific community to hold scientific conferences in spring, where the participants discuss the results of their research made during the year. The Applied Linguistics Department of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. Herzen gathers together the adherents and opponents of the latest research trends for the 6th time.

The scientific conference has an international status and gathers respectable representation. IGUMO was represented on the forum in St. Petersburg by G. Gumovskaya, Deputy Rector for International Projects and Yu. Ryzhikov, a post graduate of the Institute. Together they work out the problems of Languages for Specific Purposes and professional communication. All in all, the participants of the conference were the representatives of 60 Universities and other higher educational institution of 38 cities from 7 states – the USA, Great Britain and Israel among them.

It is not for the first time that G.Gumovskaya conducts research in the area of professional communication and linguistic communicative systems. The results of this research were more than 10 scientific publications in Russia and abroad. Her subject at the latest conference was the linguistic properties of religious language. The worldwide cultural event became the reason for the preparation of this report: in 2011 scientists all over the world celebrated 400 years of the authorized translation of The King James Bible– the most powerful and readable book of the catholic world.

As The King James Bible exists in the English language both research and report were made in English as one of the working languages of the conference.

«The Applied Linguistics in Education and Science» became the first high scale conference for Yu. Ryzhikov, a colleague and student of G.Gumovskaya. His research was devoted to the ways of expressing possibility in technical texts of modern science «musicotherapy».
