The Faculty of Design hosted a workshop by Anastasia Kletkina, IGUMO graduate and sports designer. Students learned what a sports designer does, how to prepare a portfolio and cope with a test assignment, and where to find their first customers.
Anastasia Kletkina is a graduate of the Design College of MKIK and the Faculty of Design of IGUMO. She combined two of her favourite things, creativity and sports, in her profession.
Anastasia Kletkina has been a sports designer for 5 years. She creates corporate style, award symbols, and sports merchandise for sports organisations. She is currently in charge of the Design Department of the Spartak hockey club.
Sports fans are a special community who approach very reverently all the information about their club. Therefore, the designer’s task is to study the project’s history and pay special attention to logos, colours, and other components of the corporate identity.
Anastasia Kletkina started her career in her student years. At that time, her portfolio consisted of works performed within professional disciplines. The designer showed those cases and told more about the requirements of designing the projects.
“A portfolio should be rich and beautiful to make the reader want to study it. Pay attention to details. Don’t be afraid to add text and use mock-ups. Post your work on Behance and Instagram. However, don’t send your employer a PDF file or links to cloud storage”, advises Anastasia Kletkina.
She also explained why it is important to approach responsibly the test assignment and how to protect your work from unauthorized use.
According to Anastasia Kletkina, one should use Telegram channels and social media groups that correspond to your topic of interest when looking for the first clients. For example, a sports designer should look for offers in business groups dedicated to that field of activity.
Anastasia Kletkina shared a lot of other tips that can help Design students make their first steps in the profession already during their studies.
