A new administration of the IGUMO Foreign Languages Department has made some positive changes at once. The dean of the department E.G. Brazul – Brushkovsky marked the position of communication as a prime one: «Learning of a language begins with the alphabet, but mastering it begins with overcoming your fears by means of constant communication. Since we don’t have the proper English language environment, let’s create it together. Let our morning begin with BBC news, in the afternoon we will be accompanied by Deutsche Welle and Televisión Española and our evening will end with a movie on TV5. We will welcome the communication of the IGUMO students as well as of the faculty with each other in the halls and of course during lessons. Everyday participation of the students in this communication will be looked at as a meaningful as practical training for the students. We hope that cultural centres and representatives of other countries will help us. «
The idea was implemented immediately. It is forbidden to speak Russian even on the phone on Thursdays in the Dean’s Office of the Foreign Languages Department. The first „test“ was successfully completed. The Rector of the institute, Professor M. V. Volynkina, the Chief Accountant of IGUMO K.G. Tikhy – Tischenko, the Dean of the Design Department, Associate Professor E.M. Volynkina didn’t miss an opportunity to speak English with the Dean of the Foreign Languages Department. Almost an hour they were discussing the most crucial issues of the development of the department.
The innovations in the Foreign Languages Department of IGUMO are quite serious. This year The Centre of Foreign Languages and Cultures has been created there. The main concept of the development of the department has become practice of spoken language on the basis of some serious theoretical knowledge. For informal communication café „Europe“ has been opened where you can speak English, German, French and Spanish. The visitors of this café will discuss social, economic and religious issues and solve major problems.15.11.2012
