On April 13, 2011 at the IGUMO Foreign Languages Department a demonstrative class was held for the fourth year students. The class on the subject «Practical Course in Translation» (the French language) was conducted by Yakovenko Catherine, PhD (Philology), Prof.

During the lesson a well-known film was shown. Each phrase of the film is familiar to the students but it is difficult for them to translate such phrases as «ïîíÿòèÿ íå èìåþ» ( «I have no idea»), «ÿ ÷òî, áåëåíû îáúåëñÿ?!» ( «Have I gone crazy?!»), «Äà ÷òî âû ãîâîðèòå» ( «What do you really say?») from Russian into French! What does an imperfective verb aspect mean in the phrase «Íå îñêîðáëÿë ÿ âàñ!» ( «I did not offend you!»)? And what is the French equivalent to the word «ìåñòêîì» ( «local trade union committee»)?

The next step for the students was to act as interpreters showing their knowledge and skills. Working in pairs, they dubbed a fragment of the film in turns.
