Belonging to the professional community is a big competitive advantage for a photographer. Team spirit, the possible support in a difficult situation and involvement in the professional environment are of great importance for an accomplished and self-confident photographer.
Now there are about 100 students and college students of the photography faculty at IGUMO. All of them are in love with photography but it often happens that freshmen don’t communicate with third-years, and extramural students don’t know what intramural students do. We try to level distinctions between all our students as far as possible according to different curricula and class timetables.
But our students become real friends when they have common memories of cooperative taking part in IGUMO events. That’s why we decided to gather together students of all years in non-academic time and to hold the Day of the Photography Faculty for our students to know each other better.
The celebration of this event included a tea-party, because having tea unites people. Each participant was to tell about himself, to show some of his works and to share his ideas and plans for the future.
The first to do that were teachers. Mariya Vashchuk, the dean of the Photography Faculty, told about the development of DKV, a robot for making photos. Natalia Drachinskaya showed her photo albums and shared her story of making family photos. Snezhana Suchotskaya diskussed printing and working in various Russian magazines. Extramural students talked about their projects and thus trained before defending their theses this year.
The first Day of the Photography Faculty finished with playing mafia, associations and other games developing teamworking skills.
In the future we plan to hold the Day of the Photography Faculty at the beginning of each academic year.
