Danila Sedov is a student of the Faculty of Photography of the Institute for the Humanities and Information Technologies (IGUMO). His project was first presented at the Days of Contemporary Art (DOCA) international festival, won the Young Photographers of Russia 2021 contest, and was shown at the final exhibition in Kaluga.
DOCA curators immediately liked the idea of the project. The horizon in it symbolically links the time and the destinies of people. The series of works was called Horizon Is What We Can Be Sure Of. Together with professors of IGUMO, Danila Sedov developed his concept further and made the project more profound.
“I believe I would hardly achieve that success without Vadim Gushchin and Elizaveta Zemlyanova. They guided my thoughts about the project in the right direction and suggested interesting options for its implementation”, comments the student.
The project was included in the shortlist of the Young Photographers of Russia contest and then became the winner in the special topic ‘Modern Russia. Small and Medium Cities. Transformation’. The contest was organised by the Union of Photo Artists of Russia, which is the partner of IGUMO.
The student of the Faculty of Photography personally travelled to Kaluga to present the project and attend workshops by famous photo artists.
“When I learned about taking the first place in the special nomination, I re-checked the site several times! This is a big victory at the beginning of my creative path and I’m not going to stop. One good project is great. However, I definitely need to go further with new ideas. Studying at a higher educational institution contributes to development because you are surrounded by well-known photography professionals who will always help you. At the same time, you also need to work hard”, says Danila Sedov.
It is planned to exhibit the winning works of the Young Photographers of Russia contest abroad.
Winning in a highly-competitive environment and having your pictures presented at several venues is a great achievement, especially for a first-year student.
