This institute is keen on creating hands-on opportunities for the students, and some have already become traditional. Say, the recent DOCA, held for the fifth time. It’s hosted by the IGUMO at the last weekend of April.
1600+ visitors attended the event held under the supervision of the IGUMO Journalism faculty dean, Elizaveta Zemlianova and prepared with the direct lead of our rector, Marina Vladimirovna Volynkina. And it required the brilliant idea of the IGUMO creative director Ekaterina Tretrakalashvili to make the engine roll.
The attendance this year increased, though the event is held well off the city centre. Even some art community personas were seen among the audience, including Oleg Kulik and Valery Chtak.
The DOCA is aimed at young audience, the average visitor being about 21 this year, that is 5 to 10 years younger than the attendants at such type events. That required a simpler approach to relevant art. That’s why it has become traditional to offer networking with artists, workshops and lectures on art issues, presented by a vast host of volunteer guides. The latter were appreciated by many, as their contribution to the exposition was hard to overestimate. Especially helpful was their labour at the exposition by the Kandinsky prize winner Albert Soldatov.
The exhibits occupied four of the six floors of the institute, there was plenty of anything, from photos and sculptures to poets reciting their poems and apparel shows. To say nothing of the cinema-related lectures and the famous Russian poet Marina Tsvetayeva life story. Even music was heard, as the musician and singer Jekka presented her new album, and an R&B group held a concert at the festival.
The event wouldn’t have taken place without the help of our partners: Prague School of Design, workhop museum of A.Golubkina, Kultprosvet project, Piranesi LAB, Fujifilm, Nikon, Fotolab, Parallel, GROUND Peschanaya, FGA.
