Varvara Loseva, a graduate of the Journalism and Publishing College of the International College for Arts and Communication (MKIK), works as an executive editor at the Department of Women’s Action and Russian Sentimental Prose in Eksmo.

Varvara came to the publishing house in 2019 and at first performed the tasks of the department manager: she organised interaction with related entities, managed the project base at 1C, made reports, and worked with authors, editors, and translators.

“A year later, I was given more demanding assignments, started my own projects, and subsequently became an editor. I don’t run around departments so much today. That function has been assumed by the junior editor and the interns whom I train. I have my own projects, do literary editing, write annotations and advertisement copies, and promote my books”, says a graduate of the MKIK.

In two years of work, Varvara Loseva has conducted many projects. Among them are a series of Fairy Tales of Beautiful Valley by Darya Dontsova, more than 10 electronic books for the Litres platform, as well as a project of Anna Sheol, which will appear on the book shelves in April 2021.

According to the executive editor, the knowledge that she acquired at MKIK helped her start her publisher’s career and is still relevant. Copyright course allows you to correctly formalize contracts and answer legal questions from authors and counterparties. Document Circulation simplifies the formatting of service notes.

Marketing gives an understanding of the specifics of the promotion of book products. And disciplines dedicated to proofreading and word-editing allow to process original texts qualitatively.

“Knowledge is good and necessary but, when working in a publishing house, multitasking skills are also important as well as stress tolerance, time management, patience, and diligence. So I encourage college students to practice a lot in any publishing process”, emphasizes Varvara Loseva.
