The first meeting of the literary and psychological club called ‘Mirror’took place at the International College for Arts and Communication (MKIK). The experts of the project includedSvetlana Agafonova, Dean of the Photography College, and Irina Dekhanova, Assistant Professor of the Psychology College.

Members of the literary and psychological club will meet regularly to analyze literary works from the point of view of psychology.

‘Mirror’, the name of the project, was chosen not by chance. As experts explain, literature is a mirror that reflects the life of an entire nation and individuals.

The first meeting was dedicated to Anton Chekhov’s play titled The Seagull. The club members discussed the genre of the piece of literature. Anton Chekhov called his work a comedy but this fact is surprising because its ending is really tragic.

At a meeting with experts, students learned that, in classical drama, authors often used such a comedic technique as ‘conversation of the deaf’: the characters of the work speak the same language but are not ready to understand one another. This technique is also characteristic for The Seagull play.

Experts analyzed the characters of the play’s heroes in detail with the students. They tried to understand the causes of their suffering and look into the future of each character. The club members agreed that all the characters are unhappy in their own way and createproblems for themselves so that they can then overcome them courageously.

The unusual analysis of the play helped the children understand the work better, see the hidden meanings, and draw parallels with real life.

Expert Irina Dekhanova noted that such meetings are really interesting and useful for personal growth and spiritual development. She invited students of all fields of training to participate in the literary and psychological club.
