ïîäïèñàòüñÿVeteran Grigory Ostapets visited MKIK and told the Psychology College students what he had to survive during the Great Patriotic War and how his family’s life developed after those tragic events.
The citizen of Izmailov Grigory Ostapets is 101 years old! He was born in the Kiev Oblast in a family with 5 children. At the meeting with the students, the veteran told about his childhood that had coincided with the hungry years. He had to look for grain in the fields to feed himself and his family. To bring at least 100 grams of grain was a good luck.
At the age of 20, Grigory was called up to join the Red Army in Leningrad, where he the war caught him. He fought on the Leningrad Front and the Nevsky Pyatachok, liberated the city of Königsberg. After the end of the Great Patriotic War, Grigory was sent to the war with Japan on the Transbaikal Front.
The veteran has a number of awards: the 2nd degree Order of the Patriotic War, three Orders of the Red Star, ‘20 Years of Impeccable Service in the Armed Forces of the USSR’ Order, Medals ‘For Battle Merit’, ‘For the Defence of Leningrad’, ‘For the Capture of Königsberg’, ‘For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945’, and ‘For the Victory over Japan’ decorate his jacket.
A lot of trials fell on Grigory Ostapets. He often was under gunfire, slept with other soldiers in snow in forest, andfought on the front lines. However, our guest claims that he has never been afraid of death. Internal tranquility helped him move forward and overcome all difficulties.
After the war, Grigory met a young woman who became his wife and lived with her all his life.
“The most important wish for all inhabitants of the Earth:keep the peace”, finished Grigory Ostapets.
After a series of such events, the students of the Psychology College of MKIK will release a special collection book dedicated to veterans of the Great Patriotic War and addressed to youth.
