The Psychology College of MKIK opened a multimedia exhibition called Empathy, which displayed 20 family stories from students of the second and third years of study.

The projects appeared as a result of a large-scale research. The Psychology students interviewed their relatives and found out new facts about the formation and fate of their families.

The core objective of the Empathy project is to form a value-based attitude towards friends and family and also to give one another the opportunity to be heard and to build a dialogue with one’s relatives.

The works were presented as a multimedia installation. The audience were to read the story of the family and then look through the photo and video archive.

Marina Volynkina, Rector of MKIK, gave a speech at the opening:

“Love and faith are the two most important things in the life of every human. While interviewing your relatives who gave you life and the basis for further development you surely felt that family is what makes us whole. Sometimes we try to run after time and can’t spend it with the people closest to us, but the more we know about our family’s history and values, the stronger we become”.

Anastasia Nikulina, student of the Psychology College of MKIK:

The Empathy project narrows the distance between generations. When I was interviewing my grandmother and asked her about meeting my grandfather, raising children and grandchildren, I was filled with wonderful feelings beyond words. She remembered everything that happened with such love and warmth that I begin to realize the value of my family’s history even clearer.

Alina Karimova, student of the Psychology College of MKIK:

When I was gathering photo materials and choosing the music for the movie about my family, it was very quivering and thrilling. I showed the finished product to mom. She was touched. As the youngest child of the family, I reminded her of everything that had happened in her life. I really liked participating in this project.

Alexandra Zublevskaya, student of the Psychology College of MKIK:

The exhibition presents the life story of my parents. I thought that I knew a lot about my family but, while working on the project, I found new facts that I hadn’t have time for before. This caused a lot of emotions: tears and worries. I tried to hold myself together but sometimes I just couldn’t. The presented projects have strong emotions put into them. We would like the audience to feel these emotions as well.

Anna Baydalina, student of the Psychology College of MKIK:

When I was working on my project, I felt my soul getting warmer. I interviewed my mom and dad, listened to their stories, found out how they met and fell in love.

The Empathy exhibition, on which the students were working for the entire semester, was seen by the students and lecturers of different colleges. A lot of them left the classroom with tears and motivation to talk to their relatives.

The students of the Design College of MKIK were interested in the project. Now they are working on thematic sticker pack, which can complete the exposition in the future.
